We love hot sauce here at BeeWench Farm. I mean we REALLY love hot sauce. We go through a lot of hot sauce and our favorite was almost $9 a bottle, and was gone in about one and a half weeks! So I went on a quest to find an easy recipe for hot sauce that tasted good…and didn’t have all sort of weird ingredients like MSG, etc.
I found a recipe online and it’s quite a hit! And it’s easy!
- 2 ounce dried chilies, use a variety of chilies for the best flavor.
- 4 tbsp coarsely chopped nuts, I use almonds because its what we have on hand. But you can use any that you find appealing.
- 2 tbsp honey
- ½ tsp whole cumin seeds
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 2 tsp salt
- 4 cloves garlic, peeling and crushed
- 1 ½ cups apple cider vinegar
- 3 cups water
Remove the stem and seeds from the chilies. I prefer to leave a few seeds to kick up the heat a little but that is your choice.
Place all ingredients into a medium size sauce pan. Bring to a simmer over high heat, reduce to medium-low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes remove from heat and let cool about 10 minutes.
Carefully pour or spoon ingredients into a blender, cover with lid and liquefy for several minutes until mixture is very smooth.
Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator.
Makes approx. 1 quart.
