As I stated in my last blog post, I’m working on planning for 2014. One of the plans I’m most excited about is potentially being able to offer meat shares to my CSA customers. Not only will you be able to receive fresh fruits and vegetables direct from the farm, along with fresh milk from our goats, you can now get farm fresh chicken and pork!
The details of the meat shares have yet to be decided, that’s part of my plans for this winter…but I’m trying to gauge the interest for next season.
Most likely chickens shares will be a certain number of packed, whole chickens available each week. You ‘pre-order’ the number of chickens you want for the CSA season (5 or 10) for either weekly or bi-weekly delivery. The frozen chicken would then be included as part of your CSA bag. Pricing on these will be available soon, but average (in previous years) approx. $5 per pound for a 4-5 lb bird.
Pork shares will most likely be offered in whole or half hogs and must be picked up in their entirety direct from the butcher.
